Another landmark in the ever-improving sound quality of Australian jazz recordings, this album's first notes leap from the speakers with such veracity you look around to see if your home has been gatecrashed by the players. And that vibrancy of sound is matched note for note by the vitality of the music in this Greg Coffin Trio debut.
Coffin has long been established on Sydney's jazz scene via the Java Quartet, the Coffin Brothers Quartet and the Space Cadets but this disc captures him playing out of his skin. In a nation amply decorated with pretty pianists, his rhythmic verve is breathtaking on occasion, without it subtracting from a melodic flair weighted with conviction.
This is among the finest recorded work of sinewy bassist Cameron Undy. Drummer Nic Cecire ably completes the trio and Coffin's original compositions amply reward the collective care and intensity.
More Info:

The Greg Coffin trio features Greg Coffin on Piano, Nic Cecire on Drums and Cameron Undy on Bass. The individual brilliance of these three musicians, so evident in this recording, is only outshone by their extraordinary rapport - a seemingly telepathic ability to begin and end each other's phrases. This is a truly exceptional trio. Capable of explosive firepower or the most breathtaking space and restraint this album consisting entirely of Coffin's original compositions provides the perfect forum for this trio to unleash their sublime interactive mastery.
