More Info
BAZ is the brainchild of Aaron Flower, with the title taken from his affectionate nickname. In 2007 Aaron took first place in the guitar catergory of the National Jazz Awards, placing him at the forefront of modern jazz music in Australia: as John Shand (SMH) wrote, “…it was his artistry that won him the award.”
At 30 years old, Aaron’s supremely lyrical playing has seen him working with jazz artists such as Vince Jones, Eddie Bronson, Dale Barlow, James Morrison and Elana Stone. He has also featured with Paul Kelly’s favourite songwriter King Curly, and co-leads a host of projects including power trio The Alcohotlicks, the country inspired bands Zoe & the Buttercups and Sidecar, and grunge influenced outfit the MFW, to name just a few.
BAZ recorded an album for the ABC in 2008 and now in 2010 comes Lady From Toulouse which they launch for Jazzgroove at the Basement. The music on the new album is decidedly filmic, playful, slightly melancholic but overall uplifting and beautiful, even at its most discordant moments.
