8:30pm - Ben Panucci Trio
Ben Panucci (guitar)
Alex Boneham (double bass)
James Waples (drums) |
Ben’s trio draw influence from the lyrical and blues flavoured playing of musicians such as Lester Young, Bill Frisell and Ornette Coleman. The strength of the band’s repertoire lies in its attention to subtleties of texture and dynamics. The trio can sound a bit like the Hot Club Of France, with that lightly stomping beat, then they can move into somewhat Debussyesque atmospherics and equally
atmospheric free improvisation. Their playing in all idioms has a magic combination of authenticity and individuality. Entertainment values are high and so is sheer musicality. Spirit is the word. - John Clare
